SCHEDULE FOR MONDAY PISGAH HIKERS (the next to easiest level)

All hikers should be familiar with the contents of the Information About Our Club & Website Section (in the left column).

Regular start time and place: 9:00-9:15 a.m. at the Kmart Assembly Area parking lot (near the road, not near the store entrance). Be sure to note the 15-minutes-early rule in General Information.

Hike ratings are from 1-10; higher ratings indicate greater difficulty.

The $/$ numbers are drivers fees, the first amount is the fee if gas is around $2.50/gallon, the 2nd amount if gas is close to $3.00/gallon, as explained in General Informaton.

Sept 28, 36F Sam Knob $4.50/$5.00 3mi, 635’cl, R3,

This is a round tripper from the Big Sam parking lot, across the meadow and to the top of Big Sam. While up there we will visit each of the two knobs, do lunch on one of them.

Oct 5, 36A Middle & Upper Yellowstone Falls 4½mi, 400’ R4, $4.50/$5.00

From Graveyard Parking we go down the steps and paved trail to the bridge at the top of the Middle Falls and down the steps to the foot of the falls. After coming back up the steps we hike the Blue Dot, MTS, Graveyard Rdge and Upper Falls Trails to lunch at the Upper Falls and return to the Graveyard Pkg Lot.

Oct 12   20B  Looking Glass Rock  5Mi. 1300' Cl. R6, $1.50/$2.00
This roundtrip hike is from the Davidson Rier trailhead and the first overlook. Strenuous climb but we will go slow.

Wed., Oct 14 - BiAnnual Picnic at Holmes State Forest, off Kanuga Rd, 1/2 way to Hendersonville.  $1.00 per person. Bring a dish to share!

Oct 19  62 N   Ravencliff Falls 4.5 mi, 890'cl, $2.50, plus $2.00 per person S.C. Parks Fee.
We drop down from the parking lot in SC on US 276 for lunch at the Falls overlook, then back up the easy way, avoiding the hard climb out.

Oct 26  35J   Pisgah Ridge, 4 miles, about 600'cl, R3, $3.50/$4.00
We enter the Pisgah Ridge trail where it crosses the Pkwy opposite Black Balsam Rd junction with the Pkwy and after a side trip to Skinny Dip Falls, we come out to our Shuttle at Looking Glass overlook.

Nov 2,  80S  Triple & High Falls
3.8mi, 700’, R4, $2.00/$2.50
We will hike in to see spectacular Triple and High Falls. By adding in Hooker Falls for lunch we’ll do approximately 4 miles.

Nov 9,   22M     Cove Creek/Caney Bottom,   4.5mi, 700’cl, R5, $2.00/$2.00

We will go around the Cove Creek-Caney Bottom loop trails one time and have a civilized lunch at a picnic table in the camp grounds.

Nov 16,  Two Wilderness Hikes (limit 10 people each)

Make your choice on the day of the hike:

   Hike #1: 17A Big East Fork from US276

About 6 mi, 850’cl, R6, $3.50/$4.00.  We hike up the Big East Fork trail for about 3 miles and come back the way we came in.

   Hike #2: 37D Bridges Camp/Big East Fork

4½mi, 750’cl, R5, $3.50/$3.50   This hike is from Looking Glass overlook about 2¼ miles down the Bridges Camp and Big East Fork trails to lunch on the rocks and return.

Nov 23, 21C  John Rock, 4 mi, 950 cl', R6, $1.50/$1.50
From the Fish Hatchery we go up the left hand side of the Cat Gap Trail and soon after crossing the gravel road, we find ourselves turning right onto the John Rock Trail. After lunch on teh rock we return to our cars via the reverse route.

Dec 7,  23A  Daniel Creek/Lanning Ridge,  5mi, 900’cl, R6, $2.00/$2.50

Starting at the entrance to the old Fish Rearing Station on Davidson River Road, we go around the Daniel Creek and Lanning Ridge loop with a side trip to John’s Falls

Dec 14, 16B   Promontory Stump,  5 miles, mostly down with some up, R4, $3.00/$3.50

We start at Pigeon Gap on the BRP and take the MTS to the Buck Spring Trail, with a stop at Promontory Stump to see the solid gold treasures and exit via the Buck Spring, Barnett Branch and Upper Pink Beds trails to our shuttle at the Pink Beds parking lot.

Dec 21  15A , Buck Spring 5-6mi, mostly level, R3, $2.00/$2.50

This is an easy in and out from the Buck Spring Trailhead on US 276. We cross 7-8 water crossings of small waterfalls to a lunch spot at the end of a ridge, then back. 

Dec 28, 21P, Butter Gap Trail, 5mi, 600' Cl, R4, $1.50/$1.50

Beginning at the Fish Hatchery, we trek along the Cat Gap and Butter Gap trails abour 2.5 mi, then retrace our steps, with lunch at a waterfall on the way back.
